Illustrations
My illustrations are fine single-colour intaglio engravings. In intaglio printing, lines are engraved in copper plates. Ink is applied to the plate, and settles into the engraved lines. The plate is wiped, paper is placed on it, and an image is transferred onto the paper by squeezing it into the plate on an intaglio press. Click here to link to a detailed demonstration video.
The clear, crisp lines of these illustrations depict simplified, idealised forms of the plants or parts thereof mentioned in the text. These would have been very useful for identifying the forms of these plants in nature. My other physical attributes may be somewhat humdrum or utilitarian, but I do have a gorgeous side, so, please, allow me to show it off a little here!
